A note from John’s Team:
John Timpanelli has been in show business for over 40 years. He has performed all over the world as a headline entertainer on Holland America, Norwegian, and Princess Cruise Lines, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, the Catskills and all over Florida. John also was considered the hometown boy in the 1980’s here in Pasco County. John lives in Hudson with his wife Stephanie and their children, 4 1/2 year old Chase and six month old Olivia.
Three years ago John was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis (MG). MG is an autoimmune disease — a disease that occurs when the immune system attacks the body’s own tissues. In MG, that attack interrupts the connection between nerve and muscle — the neuromuscular junction.
MG causes weakness in muscles that control the eyes, face, neck and limbs. In John’s case, his symptoms have included partial paralysis of eye movements, double vision, droopy eyelids, weakness, slurred speech, fatigue in his neck and jaws, with problems in chewing, swallowing, as well as breathing constraints.
On April 11, 2017, John elected to have a surgical procedure called thymectomy (removal of the thymus gland) that helps to alleviate the symptoms of MG and hopefully put him into remission. Unfortunately, the surgery left his vocal cord paralyzed, severely limiting the use of his voice. He is definitely not able to sing or talk well. As you can well imagine, for an entertainer who makes a living singing on stage, this is devastating!
Throughout his career John has devoted many hours to charities such as St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Habit for Humanity, Muscular Dystrophy, Churches and Temples.
In order to help John financially during this time of need, those of us in the entertainment industry have formed a coalition to do a benefit for John and his family. We feel, “that’s what friends are for”! The benefit “That’s what friends are for” will be held on September 10, 2017 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Spartan Manor in New Port Richey. Spartan Manor has generously donated their venue for this event.
Come see Johnny Petillo, Stan Prinston, William Cintron, Leesah Stiles, Peter Alden, Scott and Heather McFall, Jonathon Timpanelli, Jacob Hunt, Theresa Smith, Heather Moore, Jim and Mikki Behner, Betsi LaRock, Kevon Re’mon’te and myself, to name a few. So join us on September 10 – We will entertain you!
